Overview

Short and Long Kayak Program: This is a beginner level kayak program that occurs on Thursday evenings throughout the summer. Focus on both entry-level kayaking skills and entry-level to moderate kayaking skills. Build upon problem solving and social skills with opportunities to learn more advanced paddle strokes. Ages 7+.

Advanced Kayak Program: This is a program for people with previous kayak program experience. This program is offered several times throughout the summer. Focus on lake exploration and education, moderate to advanced kayaking skills, safety, and tripping. Build upon problem-solving and social skills with opportunities to learn more advanced paddle strokes and rescues. Previous kayaking experience is required. Ages 8+.

Family Kayak Program: This is a beginner-level kayak program for families looking to learn more about kayaking. Focus on entry-level kayaking skills, safety, and lake exploration. At least one caregiver must attend per family. Ages 7+.

Cost

  • Short Kayak Program - $50 per session ($5 discount for private pay)
  • Long Kayak Program - $60 per session ($5 discount for private pay)
  • Advanced Kayak Program - $55 per session ($5 discount for private pay)
  • Family Kayak Program - $65 per family member

Financial Assistance

We recognize that program costs can be a barrier for some families. That's why we accept a variety of funding sources—and each year, we offer financial assistance through the Eileen Hewitt Scholarship Fund to support access to Rec2Connect programs. For more information click HERE.

    Who can participate?
    For the Short and Long kayak program, participants must be 7+, for the Advanced kayak program, participants must have prior experience and be 8+.

    Where is it located?
    Locations vary by date, but most programs are at Coe Lake in Berea, Punderson State Park, or West Branch State Park.

    What is the weather policy?
    This program may be cancelled in severe weather. The air and water tempurature combined must be at least 120*. If there is risk of severe rain, thunder, or lightning the program will be cancelled.

    What do I wear to attend?
    Please wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable and can get wet. Shoes should be closed toed. Dressing in layers can help to ensure your comfort during the program. Sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended.

    What should I bring?
    Please bring a filled water bottle and any needed emergency medications (rescue inhaler, epi pen, glucose, etc). A hat or sunglasses may also be handy.
